apparently stan lee finally died of shitty old bitch disease and i better not see anyone acting like he was anything more than a sack of shit who sexually harassed multiple women and injected racism into marvel comics for decades
just cuz he died doesnt make him suddenly deserving of respect
ok so, I went and gathered sources on these, since when asked for them, op just told other people to google it. so I did.
disclaimer: I’m not trying to start any shit. but I wanted to collect this information for anyone else like me who wanted to read up more on this.
first of all, the sexual harassment of the nurses is an unconfirmed story started by the Daily Mail, which is an infamously bad news source. but that doesn’t mean these should just be dismissed completely. it should be said the nursing business discussed in these articles did not press any legal charges. they asked for money from Lee to stay silent, and when Lee’s lawyer said they would get no money because Lee had done nothing wrong, they didn’t pursue the issue. but again, that doesn’t mean that this never happened. it’s possible they didn’t press charges because they were afraid of the backlash they would get from media and Marvel fans, which is completely understandable. so these accusations should be taken seriously, but with a grain of salt, because the information given is shaky at best.
second, the “Spiderman can only be white and straight”. Stan Lee did not say this. the direct quote from Lee is: “I wouldn’t mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way. But we originally made him white. I don’t see any reason to change that.” Spiderman as a character has been multiple people of many races and sexualities! but Peter Parker was Stan’s character. I think people forget that even if a character is popular, it still belongs to the original creator, and despite however much we may disagree with them, they decide who that character is.
there’s other accusations in the notes abour Lee screwing over his partner Jack Kirby, being racist, biphobic, and more. and currently I don’t have sources on those. but I wanted to clear up this post at least, because the headlines are taken out of context. and please, if you have more information, send it my way!! I’ll update this post.
